What is ICANN63 meeting?

ICANN63 is an annual general meeting of ICANN scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain from 20th October till 26th October 2018. The 6-day open community meeting shall focus on outreach, capacity building, and showcase work performed by ICANN and it’s stakeholders to a broader global audience. The meeting will be hosted by Network Information Centre of Spain.

ICANN holds three public meetings each calendar year in different regions of the globe. ICANN Meetings are a central principle of ICANN’s multistakeholder model because they provide a venue for progressing policy work, conducting outreach, exchanging best practices, conducting business deals, interacting among members of the ICANN community, including Board and staff and learning about ICANN. Usually comprised of more than 400 different sessions, these meetings are the focal point for individuals and representatives of the different ICANN stakeholder groups to introduce and discuss issues related to ICANN policy. Participants may attend in person or remotely. Meetings are open to everyone and registration is free.

ICANN’s mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other devices. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
